Hi Guyshttp://thebrightsideforums.com/images/smilies/wink2.gif
This Stratum of mine is hard to sell so what the heck I decided to mod it. The LED is an XML T6 1D bin which is of a neutral tint.

To my suprise I manage to open the head easily by twisting. Not as bad as the L1 which needs to be heated up. The red stuff on the thread is the thread locker.

And then I used my 6P/C2 Xeno bezel removal tool to remove the bezel. Quite easy. Here you can see the various components in the head.

The head bottom side looks the same like the L1.

Ok...off to the clamp for LED removal. Desoldered the LED and I use my favourite Leatherman to remove the LED. LED is a K2 TFFC. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now the head is bare but needed cleaning. I used a plain screw driver to remove residual epoxy. Then I used ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover and Thermal Surface Purifier
to clean any unwanted inpurities on the head and also the XM-L LED. You can also see the original driver which I'm going to use again later.

Now that everything is cleaned I applied Arctic Alumina 2 Part Thermal Adhesive to the LED. Using the Leatherman plier I carefully placed it down on the head making sure it is center.
You will notice that I used plenty of masking tape around the head. This is to avoid any scratches to the head throughtout the whole process.

Walla...LED is permanently glued and soldering done.

I put everything back. I wanted to use the Xeno SS bezel but now that the reflector is raised I am unable to. So I used back the old plastic bezel. Need to find myself a thinner lens.

Beamshots below at 8 feet from the wall. Remember it's a 3 level light. LOW, MED and HIGH. I'm getting 0.03A, 0.12A and 0.54A respectively at the tail.
Hmmm...how many lumens will that be? Maybe someone can check for me. For sure It's brighter than the original one.
LOW

MEDIUM

HIGH

OK...here is the mysteroius part and I'm baffled. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
I used 2 Surefire CR123A which equals to 6V and I'm stuck at LOW and sometimes the LED flickers. But when I used 2 RCR123A= 7.6V I can get all the 3 modes with no problem at all.
Maybe the emitter change contribute to this but I'm just guessing.
I'm happy with the output. Unfortunately it has a dark cross when lit near up to 2 feet. Further than that the beam has a beatiful hotspot in the center.
No dark cross visible. An LDF lens will definitely smoothen it out.
Hope you guys like the mod.
Cheers,
